The revitalization of Great Lakes Crossing Outlets continues with the addition of Legoland Discovery Center, the state’s first indoor attraction based on the world-famous Lego brick.
The family space designed for children 3-10 will join the recently opened Sea Life Aquarium at the Auburn Hills mall. The center is slated to open in spring 2016, according to Merlin’s Midway Attractions Operating Group, which is opening the center.
“The Legoland Discovery Centers have been a huge success across the globe, particularly as an opportunity for adults and children to spend fun, quality time together,” said Glenn Earlam, the managing director for Merlin’s. “Great Lakes Crossing Outlets is the ideal location for the attraction as the mall is already a favored destination for Michigan families and tourists from the region.”
The Legoland Discovery Center will offer classes with Lego master builders, a Lego-themed ride, a 4-D cinema and the popular Miniland found at every Legoland. The Miniland at Great Lakes Crossing will include buildings from Metro Detroit, with the local community getting the chance to nominate area landmarks through a contest to be announced at a later date.
Legoland Discovery Center Michigan will be Merlin Entertainment’s eighth Discovery Center in the U.S. and the only one in Michigan. It will be located near the mall’s food court.
Steve Berlow, general manager for Great Lakes Crossing, said the Lego Discovery Center will be a great addition to the mall.
“The enduring appeal of the Lego brick combined with our already popular Sea Life aquarium ensures that our center will continue to be the premier destination for families who enjoy great shopping combined with high-quality entertainment and dining,” he said.
